The destination for Alberta Prairie excursions is Big Valley. This community was the divisional point for the Canadian Northern Railway in the early 1900s. Feature attractions include restored railway station, roundhouse interpretive centre, St. Edmund's Church and Jimmy Jock Boardwalk. All (A) type excursions are great entertainment for both children and adults.

The alphabetic characters (A) to (T) and (R&T#) refer to the excursion type and the fare structure for that trip. If you click on these letters the fares for that trip will be displayed.

Alberta Prairie reserves the right to substitute trips to different destinations and to use alternative locomotives in cases of mechanical failure. Train robberies are scheduled on all (A) excursion with meals, (B) special event, (D) Newfoundlander, and (C) APST Limited excursions. Train robberies are not part of the entertainment on (E) Murder Mystery, and (T) Teddy Bear Special excursions. Inclusions on all excursions are subject to change without notice, discount, or refund should circumstances arise which would prevent the delivery of such things as train robberies.

– Passenger & Freight Special (Alternating steam)                (#2)   

One of either APST No. 41 or ARM No. 1392 will pull the passenger consist
heading south. Somewhere on route the passenger train meets and passes
a freight train being pulled by the second steam locomotive coming north.
After an exchange of whistles each of the locomotives is uncouple from
their train and exchanges position. Guest will be treated to the rare experience
of riding a vintage train pulled by two different steam locomotives on the same
day and photographing a meet between steam-powered freight and passenger
trains. Each passenger will receive a meal service voucher good at any one of
a number of participating Stettler restaurants.

This is the last day of Rails and Tales Canada 150. Crews will be busy
preparing ARM 1392 for its trip back to the museum. Visitors will
experience steam locomotive boiler blow downs, whistling off, ringing
of a steam-assisted locomotive bell and the servicing of these interest
modes of power from a time long past. Both steam locomotives will be
available for viewing.

Friday, July 7 - Teddy Bear Special to Big Valley (Diesel)                  (T)       
Children 10 & under accompanied by adult and teddy bear ride free.
Children are invited to join in a teddy bear promenade just before departure

The outstanding Rod Miller collection of hand-tools is one the largest
and best of its kind in North America. Be sure to spend some time at the
new tool museum building south-west of the Big Valley station and
the railway related artifacts in the station while you are in the area.

This could be the
last time that the notorious Reynolds Raiders will try to hold up the train
this season.

Menu Options
Because of the nature of what it is we offer Alberta Prairie Railway is not able to provide alternative menu choices. Over the years what we have found is that guests find the buffet more than amble with lots of choices. In special circumstances, and as an alternative to the meat dish offered, guests can request a high-quality vegetable burger by pre-ordering at time of booking.

PUBLIC TIME TABLES
Alberta Prairie reserves the right to substitute excursions to destinations other than those shown in this schedule and to use alternative motive of power in case of mechanical failure.

RESERVATIONS ARE RECOMMENDED
Reservations can be arranged by phone using MasterCard or VISA. Although we can usually accommodate passengers without reservations, we do sell out and a reservation guarantees seating.

THE POLAR EXPRESS CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY
THE POLAR EXPRESS train cancellations will be accepted up until departure. No refunds will be made once the train has left the station. The Polar Express cancellations will receive a 50 percent refund of all monies paid up until the date and time of departure and the return of unused tickets. There will be no refunds after the fact.

CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY
With the exception of THE POLAR EXPRESS trains cancellations will be accepted up until 24 hours prior to departure. No refunds will be made with less than 24 hours notice. Cancellations received less than seven (7) days prior will be issued a voucher of equal value for a future trip. With less than five (5) days notice, it may not be possible to seat passengers with their group. Please try to reserve the required number of seats with original booking.

RECOMMENDED TRAVEL TIMES
A leisurely drive from Calgary will take approximately three hours and, from Edmonton, two and one-half hours.

ALBERTA PRAIRIE COUNTRY DINNERS
Dinners are buffet style, served at the hall in community named and are prepared by the people of that community. Meals usually include either Alberta beef, roast turkey or baked ham, potato, roll, salad, vegetables and dessert.

FINE RAILWAY DINING (Winter Excursions only)
Dinners include a five-course meal with a choice of three different entrees. Wine is included with your meal.
