2019 Excursion Schedule
The following is a preliminary draft of Alberta Prairie's 2019 schedule.
This is only a proposal, is subject to change, and will not be completely firmed up until the first week of February.

All trains depart and return to Stettler, Alberta
(Updated: Thursday August 15, 2019)

The destination for most Alberta Prairie excursions is Big Valley. The exception being Pumpkin Fest, The Polar Express, and The Night Before, The Night Before Christmas. Big Valley was the divisional point for the Canadian Northern Railway in the early 1900s. Feature attractions include restored railway station, roundhouse interpretive centre, St. Edmund's Church and Jimmy Jock Boardwalk. All (A) type excursions are great entertainment for both children and adults.

The alphabetic characters (A) to (T) refer to the excursion type and the fare structure for trips. If you click on these letters the fares for that trip will be displayed.

Alberta Prairie reserves the right to substitute trips to different destinations and to use alternative locomotives in cases of mechanical failure. Train robberies are scheduled on all (A) excursion with meals, (B) special event, (D) Newfoundlander, and (C) APST Limited excursions. Train robberies are not part of the entertainment on (E) Murder Mystery, and (T) Teddy Bear Special excursions. Inclusions on all excursions are subject to change without notice, discount, or refund should circumstances arise which would prevent the delivery of such things as train robberies.

Thurs., Aug. 15 - Country Dinner to Big Valley                       (A)               
Travel back in time and see small town Alberta as it once was. A visit to
roundhouse interpretive centre and fully restored railway station a must
see during stop at Big Valley. Includes on board entertainment and full
course Alberta roast beef buffet-style meal at Big Valley.

Friday, Aug. 16 - Country Dinner to Big Valley                      (A)

Saturday, Aug. 17 - Free-mo Trains Special                           (A)
Each year modellers create and operate one of the largest model train
layouts of its type in North America.
Participants arrange modules, hooked
them all up, level the entire thing to create bench work covering most of
the entire surface of the Big Valley arena! Trip includes visit to the show
organized by the Calgary Free-mo group, entertainment, and buffet-style
Alberta roast beef meal.
Be warned train robbery is likely.

Sunday, Aug. 18 - Free-mo Trains Special                             (A)
This is the second day of 16th annual Free-mo trains show organized by
the Calgary Free-mo group which was, in 2018,  the largest of its type in
North America.
 Each year modellers create and operate trains over bench
work covering almost the entire surface of the Big Valley arena. Includes
on-board entertainment, and
buffet-style meal featuring a chefs special
potato salad, sliced turkey, ham and beef
. The word on the street is that
the Reynolds Raiders are likely try something devious this weekend.

Thursday, Aug. 22 - Country Dinner to Big Valley                  (A)
The development of the Canadian Railway Hall of Fame to the south
of the Railway Car Museum
is a great addition to community's
many attractions and well worth a visit. Spend some time looking at
the railway related artifacts in the station while you are in the area.
Trip includes
buffet-style Alberta roast beef meal.

Friday, Aug. 23 - Country Dinner to Big Valley                       (A)

The outstanding Rod Miller collection of hand-tools is one the largest
and best of its kind in North America. Be sure to spend some time at the
tool museum building south-west of the Big Valley station.

buffet-style Alberta roast beef meal and on board entertainment.

Sunday, Aug 25 - Highland Special to Big Valley                     (A)
Red Deer Legion Pipe Band will perform in Stettler and again in Big Valley.
Includes
buffet-style Alberta roast beef meal plus all the extras offered on
most Country Dinner excursions.

Fri., Aug. 30 - Teddy Bear Special to Big Valley                     (T)
Children 10 & under accompanied by adult and teddy bear ride free.
Children are invited to join in a teddy bear promenade just before departure
on the return trip. Everyone receives a prize. Includes entertainment
specially for the children and buffet-style Alberta roast beef meal plus hot
dogs for the children, but no train robbery.

Sat., Aug. 31 - Country Dinner to Big Valley                           (A)

Sunday, Sept. 8
- Adults Only Senior's Special                        (G)

No children please! Just for those who want to ride the train without the
bustle and excitement of 17 and under children. This trip offers all the
extras normally found on "County Dinner" excursions including

, time for sight-seeing in Big Valley,
on board entertainment, and train robbery.

Saturday, Sept. 14 - APST Limited to Big  Valley                   (C)
These excursions are the top of the line for Alberta Prairie. Includes a
one-hour long show featuring the music from the 50s 60s & 70s that
has stood the test of time, is energetic, and infectious. Get ready to
Rockn Roll with Richard and Deborah Popovich! Performance,
up scale buffet-style prime rib of Alberta beef dinner, wine with
meal, guaranteed robbery. Seating is limited so book early.

Sunday, Sept. 15 - Country Dinner to Big Valley                    (A)         
Don't be surprised if bandits show-up. We have been having a bunch
of trouble with the notorious
Reynolds Raiders over the last few years and
try as they may the railway police seem baffled as to how to catch them.
And yes! You should be safe while visiting Jimmy Jock Boardwalk, the
little town within a town. Includes
buffet-style Alberta roast beef meal
and on board entertainment.

This is a once a year opportunity. Depending on the year spectacular
colours can be seen all along the tracks in the fall. Usually the brush,
trees, grasses and fields have turned to bright gold, orange and reds,
and are wonderful to see up close and away from the highways.
Includes buffet-style
Alberta roast beef meal and on board entertainment.

Sat., Sept. 28 - End of Season Special to Big Valley               (F)
This is maybe your last chance in 2019 to ride the train and be robbed by
the Reynolds Raiders. Come and join us for

train during the return journey.

Menu Options
Because of the nature of what it is we offer Alberta Prairie Railway is not able to provide alternative menu choices. Over the years what we have found is that guests find the buffet more than amble with lots of choices. In special circumstances, and as an alternative to the meat dish offered, guests can request a "Beyond Beef" burger by pre-ordering at time of booking.

PUBLIC TIME TABLES
Alberta Prairie reserves the right to substitute excursions to destinations other than those shown in this schedule and to use alternative motive of power in case of mechanical failure.

RESERVATIONS ARE RECOMMENDED
Reservations can be arranged by phone using MasterCard or VISA. Although we can sometimes accommodate passengers without reservations, we do sell out and a reservation guarantees seating.

THE POLAR EXPRESS VALUE PACK CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY
Except under special circumstances there are no refunds, cancellations or change dates allowed with less than 24 hours notice of THE POLAR EXPRESS VALUE PACK Train reservations. With more than 24 hours notice reservation dates can be changed to another VALUE PACK date or time at no charge. Cancellations with more than 24 hours notice will have a full refund posted to a credit card.
, conditional on the return of unused train tickets prior to January 31, 2020. These terms and conditions are only available on reservations made for the following dates: Sunday, November 24, Wednesday, December 11, Thursday, December 12, Tuesday, December 17, and Wednesday, December 18.

THE POLAR EXPRESS CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY
THE POLAR EXPRESS train cancellations will be accepted up until 24 hours prior to departure. There are no refunds, cancellations or change dates with less than 24 hours notice. With more than 24 hours notice reservation dates can be changed to another date or time subject to a $10 per ticket service fee. Cancellations with more than 24 hours will have a 50 per cent refund posted to a credit card.

CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY
With the exception of THE POLAR EXPRESS trains cancellations will be accepted up until 24 hours prior to departure.
All monies advanced are fully refundable up to one week prior to departure. Cancellations within the last week, but more than twenty-four hours receive a gift certificate with a face value equal to tickets returned and that value will apply to fares on a trip sometime in the future. There are no refunds during the last twenty-four prior to a trip. With less than five (5) days notice, it may not be possible to seat passengers within an existing group. Please try to reserve all seats required with original booking.

RECOMMENDED TRAVEL TIMES
Alberta Prairie recommends that you allow yourself enough time for a leisurely drive to Stettler one hour from Red Deer, two and one-half hours from Edmonton, or three hours from Calgary.

ALBERTA PRAIRIE COUNTRY DINNERS
Dinners are buffet style, served at the hall in community named and are prepared by the people of that community. Meals usually include either Alberta beef, roast turkey or home cooked and sliced ham, turkey or beef, potatoes, rolls, salads, vegetables and dessert.
