Alberta Prairie offers a full range of day trips aboard a vintage train. All excursions originate & return to Stettler and include a stop at Big Valley or the Country Hideaway unless another destination is indicated. Alberta Prairie reserves the right to use alternative power in cases of mechanical failure. Inclusions are subject to change without notice, discount, or refund should circumstances arise which prevent delivery of such things as train robberies.
Train robberies are scheduled on all excursions traveling to Big Valley and Alberta Prairie’s Country Hideaway with the exception to Teddy Bear Specials, Harvest Pumpkin Fest, THE POLAR EXPRESS and Murder Mysteries. The Reynolds Raiders, a gang of mounted bandits, rob guests of loose change. The money is donated to Alberta children’s charities.

This trip lasts three (3) hours, and travels to Alberta Prairie’s COUNTRY HIDEAWAY and its beautiful natural park setting. Teddy Bear Special to Country Hideaway (T)
Children 13 years & under accompanied by an adult and teddy bear ride free on this three (3) hour trip traveling to the COUNTRY HIDEAWAY. Children are invited to join in a teddy bear promenade just before departure on the return trip. Every child receives a prize. Trip includes entertainment specially for the children and full course buffet style beef on a bun meal plus hot dogs, hayrides, nature walks, inside and/or outside dining, on-site live entertainment, children’s barrel train, and lots more. All trips include a train robbery, a full course buffet style meal at Big Valley, and on-board entertainment. Visits to Jimmy Jock Boardwalk – a little town within a town, restored 1912 Canadian Northern station, St. Edmund’s Church – the blue church on the hill, rail car museum, McAlister Motors – community museum, Hand-tool and Collectables Museum, and roundhouse and elevator interpretive centres are a part of these experiences.
Country Diner Excursion to the Village of Big Valley (A)
The most frequent and popular excursions we offer. Includes rail excursion lasting between five, and five and one-half hours, full course buffet style meal at destination, on-board entertainment, time to visit Jimmy Jock Boardwalk, restored station, rail car museum, roundhouse and elevator interpretive centres, and the vintage cas and hosehold artifacts at McAlister Motors community museum. Spend time at world-class Rod Miller tool museum. Mine payroll on board increases danger of being hit by the Reynolds Raiders, a mount outlaw gang that frequents these parts and is known to be involved in train robbery. THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride (PE)

Set to the sound of the movie soundtrack, passengers relive the magic of the story as they are whisked away on THE POLAR EXPRESS™. Once on board, guests are served hot chocolate and a cookie treat by Polar Express Chefs and each family receives a souvenir Polar Express mug. Children are served their hot chocolate in a unique light weight Polar Express decorative double wall and lidded SEDA paper cup. Santa will board train at the North Pole and walk through cars giving out the “first gift of Christmas” – a silver sleigh bell.

Discounts apply: only to fares paid in advance as a group of twenty (20) or more and do not apply to individuals within a group paying separately.
Reservations are Recommended: Reservations can be arranged by phone using MasterCard or VISA. Seating is assigned at time of booking. We can sometimes accommodate passengers without reservations, we do sell out and a reservation guarantees seating.
Cancellation and Refund Policy: All sales are final and there are no refunds with less than 48 hours’ notice. With more than seven (7) days’ notice cancellations are refunded the amount paid less a $25 per ticket administration fee. With less than seven (7) days’ notice refunds are in the form of a gift certificate less the $25 per ticket fee. In the event an excursion is canceled or rescheduled by Alberta Prairie we will attempt to contact you, and inform you of refund, credit, or exchange procedures.
Menu Options: Over the years we have found that guests find our meal choices more than ample. As an alternative to the meat dish offered, guests can request a quality spaghetti dish with non-meat sauce. Please per-ordering at time of booking. In cases of special dietary circumstances it is recommended that you let us know when you are making your reservation.
During the off season and on weekdays trains are available provided that you have enough people: for special charters, tours, reunions and private/public events and with enough notice private coaches can be booked for an addition fee on most regularly scheduled excursions.
